Handwriting Identification — Washington, DC

Washington D.C. is the headquarters of Strokes & Slants, offering professional handwriting identification and document examination to prominent law firms nationwide for more than 30 years. The company is located in the McGraw building in the center of Washington D.C., four blocks from the White House.

First Authentication Client

Strokers & Slants principal, Beverley East’s first document authentication client was the Washington Court Hotel. One of the company’s biggest successes was authenticating the Edgar Wallace’s Butterfly collection which was owned by a D.C. lawyer from Troutman & Saunders and sold to the Smithsonian Museum.

Ms. East has testified in family courts in Washington D.C., Maryland, Virginia and Somerset County. Areas of document examination and identification that are addressed in the Washington, D.C. office include identifying the authenticity of documents in family matters  such as deeds, will and testaments, promissory notes, false marriage certificates, insurance and mortgage fraud. In the corporate world services include contract dispute, company embezzlement and fraudulent checks. And educational institutions sometimes call on the DC office to examine anonymous writings, usually written on walls, black boards, and whiteboards.

Press and Media

The D.C. office has often been used for media interviews. Ms. East was featured twice in the Washington Post 1991 and 2020. Several TV interviews include:

  1. Finding the Anthrax Killer for National Geographic
  2. The Dahlgren Letters aired on the Smithsonian Channel
  3. The company travelled to Vermont to tape “George Washington’s Love”
  4. In 2021 in the height of the pandemic Ms. East was featured on the CBS program 48 Hours, “Centerville Anonymous letters”

Ms. East has been a guest speaker on radio and television and has lectured on many corporate platforms for small business, conferences on legal matters including labor law and local business such as Mont Blanc. In 2020 she participated in an FBI research handwriting identification study. Pre pandemic Ms. East traveled extensively to various countries to testify but since 2019 most testimonies have been carried out virtually.

The Washington, D.C. office services the North East region from local suburbs Virgina, Maryland Baltimore, New York and New Jersey.
